difference between orthopaedic and anatomic mattresses
There is a difference between orthopaedic and anatomic mattresses, and it is an important distinction. Many customers ask for a mattress that is both orthopaedic and anatomic, assuming that it must be better because it includes both terms! The truth, though, is that there are no official international specifications defining how a mattress should be made in order to be both orthopaedic and anatomic
The myth of the hard mattress
The myth that a good mattress is a hard mattress is no more. In reality, a good mattress should be firm, but not necessarily hard. It should provide good support to the spine and at the same time make us feel rested.
Finally, it must have the right elasticity. The right elasticity is directly connected to the quality of the materials the mattress is made from, such as latex, cotton and a well-designed suspension.
Orthopaedic mattress
Orthopaedic mattresses mainly use connected springs (bonnell springs) that support the spine so that it doesn't curve.
Anatomic mattress
Anatomic mattresses mainly use individual springs (pocket springs), because they are the only ones that work independently.
In this way, the mattress follows the natural curve of the spine.
In an anatomic mattress, the quality of the fabric around the spring is particularly important. The life of a mattress, which relates to its quality, depends to a great extent on the quality of its materials. To preserve their independent movement, the springs of an anatomic mattress must be enclosed in high quality fabric.
In Greece, many mattresses sold as having independent springs do not in fact have fully independent springs or have springs covered in a fabric substitute made of synthetic material and cotton fibre, which does not of course have the durability of fabric!
Candia Strom is the only company in Europe
to manufacture anatomic springs with a cotton
fabric cover (Bodyfix Heritage & Bodyfix)
and sowe are able to guarantee that our anatomicmattresses fulfil all the necessary specifications.
